Biography of Louis Garrel
Louis Garrel is a French actor, screenwriter, and director. He was born on June 14, 1983 in Paris, into a family of artists. His father is the director Philippe Garrel, and his mother is the actress Brigitte Sy. Louis also has a sister named Esther Garrel, who is also an actress. Acting runs in the family, with his grandfather Maurice Garrel and great-grandfather also being actors.
Early Life and Education
Louis Garrel completed his education at the Higher National Conservatory of Dramatic Art in Paris in 2004. He began acting under his father's direction at the age of six, but his breakthrough came with the role of Théo, a cinephile, erotomaniac, and rebel in Bernardo Bertolucci's film "The Dreamers." This role perfectly suited his image as an aloof intellectual and nervous heartthrob.
Career
In 2006, Louis Garrel received the prestigious César Award for Most Promising Actor for his role in his father's film "Regular Lovers." He also gained attention at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, playing the lover of a forty-year-old actress (played by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi) in Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi's film "Actresses' Night." In Christophe Honoré's musical "Love Songs," Garrel portrayed a character in a bisexual melodrama. He also performed all the songs for the soundtrack of the film "Songs" (2007), further showcasing his talents.
Personal Life
From 2007 to 2012, Louis Garrel was in a de facto marriage with Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi. In 2009, the couple adopted a girl from Senegal, whom they named Céline.
